Sarah Circle Retreat 2017

Have a girl’s getaway planned sometime soon?  You can still be in-style wearing sweatpants, pjs and a t-shirt.  Makeup is always optional, but sweet tea and a sliver of cake is mandatory.  Enjoy the dish!

Retreat:  A place you can go to get away from it all.

That’s what I will be doing this weekend…going to Possum Kingdom Lake and staying at a friend’s beautiful lake house with friends from my church circle.

Sounds relaxing and stress free…right?  So, two things you need to know about me:

  1. I’m pretty sure I’m gifted when it comes to relaxing and retreating…
  2. …and I can’t think of a better way to start the New Year!

Jeans, sweats, and pajamas are the trend at this retreat.  Let’s talk about pajama options first.  Did you get a pair of really cute pajamas for Christmas or Hanukkah?  If not, I hope you found something on sale after the first of the year.  My idea of comfort is a pair of pajama pants and a t-shirt topped with a sweat shirt. I’m currently in the process of looking for a pair of fur lined moccasins on sale, possibly from J Crew or a pair of UGGs.  I have to admit that I’m completely smitten with Kate Spade New York’s first ever sleepwear collection.  I have a feeling some of the retreaters will be wearing an adorable pair of Victoria Secret’s monogramed pajamas or a cute pair of pjs from Gap.  Eye masks are optional!  If cute and cozy sleepwear doesn’t get you in retreat mode, I don’t know what does.

Eat. Shop. Sleep. Repeat.

Whatever we will be wearing at the retreat, I can assure you the pants will have a stretchy waistband. Besides relaxing, we are guaranteed to gain at least 3 pounds at the retreat.  Everyone brings a few of their favorite appetizers for the “Buffet of Shame” and grazing is as important as what we are wearing. Truthfully…it’s more important! Saturday we will make our annual pilgrimage to Graham, Texas to shop and have lunch on the square.  So what will we be wearing?  If it is like years past, lots of layers….sweatshirts, scarves, gloves, coats, etc. and stretchy pants…of course!

Talk about “retreating,” where do you go to get away from it all?  I attended a party recently, and a lady just happened to mention her “villa in Florida.”  Hmmm, aren’t those called retirement homes? That being said, I don’t have a villa to get away to, but I do have my utility room where my desk and computer are.   With my Pinterest boards, I am able to create my own fantasy world to retreat to.  One of my favorite Pinterest boards is a memory escape called Ma-Maw’s Porch.

It has pictures of beautiful front porches, some of them over-looking a lake like the Burdette’s lovely lake house at Possum Kingdom Lake.  These pictures bring back memories of sitting in a rocking chair on my grandparent’s front porch….listening to Ma-Maw tell stories in her Mississippi accent and drinking a short Coca-Cola.

You are not going to believe this, but I don’t have a suggestion on what to wear when you visit your grandmother.  But I’m pretty sure if I owned a “villa” anywhere, I would give it all up to sit on Ma-Maw’s porch just one more time to listen to her stories, eat her delicious pound cake, and hear her say, “You don’t mean it!”  Isn’t that what retreating is all about?  Taking time to pause, remembering your loved ones, and making new memories with friends and family.

Sarah Circle Mission Statement

I can’t wait to spend the weekend with my Circle friends, and maybe I’ll just make one of Ma-Maw’s pound cakes for all of us to graze on!   And those of you who know me really well are probably saying to yourselves, “you don’t mean it!”
