Hospitality is in my DNA. I founded Home with a Twist, a daughter’s twist on her mother’s traditions, in memory of my mother to celebrate her life and the gifts she shared with me. Mother loved to celebrate life’s occasions – big and small.
She taught me how to prepare fabulous food, entertain guests with style and design a traditional home with a pop of color and a splash of animal print. Share my fondness of blending Mother’s mid-century style with a modern spin.
Happy Saturday! Whew, this past week flew by with finishing up new year organizing projects. Did you see my garage reveal in stories and on my blog? I've got a reel you can watch, too for all the fun we had😛.
Planning to make Frieda' strawberry cake 🍓 this weekend. I've got the recipe in my bio link. It's the perfect birthday cake and for Valentine's Day.
This morning I'm enjoying beautiful grocery store flowers and my candle from @wirrwarrwraps while I sip my latte.
𝐖𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐚 𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟. This morning, I'm sitting at the kitchen table, light streaming in the window welcoming me into a new day - a new year.
As I sip my coffee I'm writing a letter to myself that I will tuck into my Christmas decorations to read in December '22. I have no outline and I'm not including resolutions. I'm writing a love note to say the words I so freely give to others but not as often as I should to myself. Things like "you're stronger than you think", "you are good enough" and "slow down. Life is fast enough."
I'm excited about the new year ahead. I'm hopeful God will give me another year to share my gifts with others, take risks to try new things and continue to celebrate everyday with those I love.
𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙈𝙖𝙘𝙂𝙮𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙈𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙡. Do you ever decorate and hold your breath that no one will touch it?
There's all sorts of smoke and mirrors in this set up of my Christmas mantel. Scotch tape, paperclips and command hooks. But it survived and this was the last of the holidays packed up for next year. Whew.
I love color and Candy Land was my inspiration. I used my Mother's jeweled brooches for the bling on the ribbon.
𝙋𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝘾𝙝𝙖𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙜𝙣𝙚 𝙎𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙠𝙡𝙚𝙧. Recipe below. 🍾 As the Christmas decor comes down and packed away for next year, this refreshing sip is perfect for the task. Mix up a batch for NYE and brunch the next day.
1 turbinado sugar cube
2 TBL Pomegranate Juice (100% juice)
1/2 cup Champagne or Prosecco
Place sugar cube in a champagne flute, add juice and top with bubbly....
𝙈𝙤𝙣𝙤𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙢 𝙈𝙤𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙮 and ironing day. I'm washing and ironing all my napkins to get them organized for the new year.
I rarely iron because I prefer a steamer. But, there's something so satisfying ironing crisp seams. It's also nostalgic imagining how my mother ironed her linens. What's your favorite homekeeping chore?
These lovely napkins feature my custom @shulerstudio monogram sewn by @thepinkanchor7....
From our family to yours may your Christmas day and holiday break be filled with love, peace and joy.
The 1948 CJ-2A Wilys jeep has been in our family since the early 60s. It's the first civilian jeep model and had a full restoration in the last few years to its original Luzon red. One of the three vehicles than won WWII because it was so utilitarian. Santa would approve, don't you think?
𝗠𝘆 𝗙𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝗬𝗼𝘂! Thank you to everyone who takes the time to comment with kindness and follow my journey to celebrate everyday. I'm grateful for the inspiring ideas you share and the friendships I've formed here.
A few more of my favorites - the smell of a Christmas tree, unwrapping old ornaments each year like they are new, treats people drop off with smiles, baking while I dance to Christmas tunes, and a dark room filled with the light from the tree. Most of all I'm thankful for the lovely Christmases my Mother tirelessly planned for us - without complaint and always with a fabulous beehive hairdo and stunning apron!
𝗣𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗮 𝗕𝗼𝘂𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘁. I hosted probably one of my most favorite brunches yesterday with brand new friends. My "Poinsettia Girls" tablescape featured individual blooms at each placesetting. I'll share more about the girls next week on the blog.
Poinsettia bouquet how to - Take a Trader Joe's Poinsettia and cut each bloom then place in water like you would cut flowers. After brunch I gathered all the blooms and made a bouquet for my entry vignette. The ruby red flowers will stay fresh all week. And, of course, add a splash of animal print for good measure.

𝗖𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝗪𝗵𝗶𝘀𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝗿. It's time to find the perfect sip and clink glasses for next week's holiday celebrations. This ruby red refreshment is brought to you by @sledgedistillery - a family owned business crafting their secret recipe since 1942. Be sure to visit their website for events and shopping.
Fill a shaker halfway with ice
Add 2 oz Rocky Branch Bourbon
2 oz Cranberry Juice
1 oz Orange juice
1/2 oz lime juice
1/2 oz lemon juice
Pour into glass
Garnish with cranberries and orange peel (I grabbed a sprig of rosemary from the garden because I love how it smells).
Pour your sip into a really cool set of retro glasses from my friend Jen at Long Game Bar Ware and you’ll have a very swinging holiday party!...
𝗦𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮'𝘀 𝗧𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲. Last week I set the table for Mrs. Claus. This week Santa gets a seat at the big table filled with red and green vintage plaid, ruby glassware, Jadeite, Christmas dishes and his own mug filled with homemade hot cocoa.
And you can't celebrate the season without Southern Living's Red Velvet Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting. Buzz to my bio for the cake and homemade hot cocoa mix recipes.. The perfect pairing.
𝗔 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗮𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗲 𝗧𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲. If you live in a small space or just want a little Christmas - the coffee table is your springboard for cheer. Make it tell your story!
Find a big bowl and fill it with your favorite ornaments. Maybe from your childhood tree so the ornaments reflect your memories. Add a few wrapped packages tied with ribbon and clipped greens from your garden. Add a small bunch of flowers in your favorite color - mine happen to be pink and orange.
The "wow" in the vignette is a gold box I found on clearance and I hot glued my mother's vintage pins to the top.
Tag your #itsacolorfullifetour photos this Friday!...
𝗜 𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝗿𝘀. 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘂𝘀. Sleigh the day, Santa, Mrs. Claus is lunching with me!
Everyone always leaves cookies and milk for Santa, but we know he can't do anything without Mrs. Claus by his side. So I decided she needed a table set just for her.
I began collecting Franciscan Desert Rose china over the summer and love the feminine pink and green colors. I mixed the china with vintage ruby thumbprint goblets and punch cups, gold flatware and pink check table linens from @amymontgomeryhome. A nod to her beloved is a Glitterville Santa mug with a candy cane tucked inside. A Jeanette pink pitcher filled with hot pink garden roses and white tulips adds a pop of color (like we need it😉). Pink glass ornaments tied with a bow and tucked inside a pink coupe glass completes the look.
Keep it merry, y'all. To shop my Instagram click the link in my bio.

🍬 𝐒𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐬𝐢𝐩 𝐨𝐟 𝐩𝐞𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐞𝐚! I'm hosting my virtual Home for the Holidays tour next week on the blog and on stories.
The elves have sleighed the week trimming the trees, tying ribbons on wreaths, hanging vintage mistletoe and setting up the perfect hot cocoa bar. And for good measure the cats have broken a few ornaments!
𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩'𝙨 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙛𝙖𝙫𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙚 𝘾𝙝𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙢𝙖𝙨 𝙙𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙤 𝙪𝙣𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙠? Santa mugs are my crush! I just adore taking my first cocoa of the season in my collection of mugs. I added a few vintage ones this year I'll share soon.
Speaking of cocoa - the cocoa bean is a seed and a seed is technically a nut. The seed comes from a nut inside a fruit. So technically, cocoa is a fruit, therefore you can drink as much cocoa as you want! Santa approves!😛🎅...
𝐌𝐲 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐠𝐢𝐟𝐭 𝐰𝐫𝐚𝐩. The presentation of a gift is everything and I adore @rubystripe! Their quality is not your ordinary tissue-thin wrap and the designs remind me of the patterns from my days serving as my mother's official Chief of Reeves Gift Wrap!
Mother set up a card table in the guest room filled with rolls of wrapping paper, tissue, boxes and bows. I earned 25 cents for each package I wrapped, but no two could be alike. Oh, what fun!

Happy Thanksgiving. Setting the table brings back many memories of holidays past. Vintage Johnson Brothers Friendly Village always set the scene on our table. When I was little, I'd create stories in my head of the people and places featured on the china. I'm grateful I have my mother and grandmother's collection of dishes.
I've added some new to me vintage pieces this year - autumnal cocktail glasses, ruby thumbprint goblets, gold flatware from Martha. The red punch bowl is from my hip 88-year neighbor Helen and I used it for the red and pink roses. The linens are from Amy Montgomery - a beautiful woman I hope to meet someday.
And in the center of the table is a photo of my parents. While they aren't here in the physical sense, they are with me everywhere - in how I serve God through my gifts of hospitality and grace for others. May you feel loved today and filled with the Spirit of Thanksgiving....
𝗣𝘂𝗺𝗽𝗸𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗶. I'm sharing this creamy, smooth ultimate autumnal sip recipe on the blog. It's the perfect welcome cocktail as your guests arrive for the big Thanksgiving meal.
Served in my mother's wedding crystal, the rims are garnished with crushed graham crackers and finished with a dash of pumpkin spice. Set your sips on a pretty vintage brass tray from @ltolestatesales and serve with monogrammed coasters from @basicallybrittanydesigns.
𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐜𝐮𝐟𝐟𝐬. If you are needing just one, fun accessory this season add a pair of @beyondcuffs to your wardrobe. Cynthia's collection comes beautiful boxed and makes the perfect gift. She carries Hanukkah, Christmas, TCU and business chic.
The cuffs slip over a sweater or blouse to instantly change up or polish your look. You can monogram them, too....
Y'all know how I have such a crush on monogramming. Look at this festive gift set @basicallybrittanydesigns made just for me! Brittany will curate a personalized gift set with guest towels, coasters, and stovetop potpourri wrapped and ready for giving.

𝙒𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙙𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙙𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝘾𝙝𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙢𝙖𝙨? I'm home from Maine and enjoying my coffee while I listen to Christmas music. I love how holiday tunes make me feel. Hop over to my bio for my Spotify Christmas mix playlist filled with classics and new tunes.
I'll probably start decorating in a few weeks. Right now I can enjoy the photos from my tree in 2020. Have a merry day!🤶...
"I would rather feel bad in Maine, than feel good everywhere else." E.B. White
We've packed alot into this week of our annual pilgrimage to our favorite place. Joined by my besties, we've laughed, cried, breathed in vitamin sea, leaf peeped, taken long walks along the Marginal Way, eaten our weight in lobster, and shopped small.
Until 2022, leave the lights on @thetrellishouse....
