We have really been enjoying our “Summer of Fridays” we are hosting during the months of June and July. We open our side gate from 6-9 p.m. to anyone who wants to join us for a poolside meal and fun conversation. The menu changes weekly and all we ask is you RSVP by Thursday, BYOB and bring a side. It’s that easy. Summer has never been more fun for us!
My friend Jacqui has been our cocktail queen bringing something fetching to sip that goes with the menu. A few weeks ago when we made pizza, she brought the makings for a delicios Aperol Spritz she enjoyed during her recent Italian getaway. Aperol is an Italian apéritif, and it’s typically served before a meal to stimulate the appetite. Aperol was invented in 1919, but it wasn’t until after World War II that Aperol really gained attention on a global scale. The Italian way of life, enjoying an ‘apéritif’ before dinner, took the world by storm. The slang word for apéritif is apero, hence the name Aperol. The flavors noted in descriptions of Aperol are bitter orange, gentian, rhubarb and cinchona among other ingredients. I thought it tasted like summer in a glass.
